Anxiety is it the main reason you’re not pregnant?
When you decide to begin the wonderful journey of starting a family, it is important that you feel as happy and optimistic as possible. It’s been believed for years, mainly through observation, that anxiety is a negative factor affecting conception. Research has now come to confirm this assumption.
By studying the changes of biological indices, such as of alpha-amylase in the saliva, researchers found that its increased production in women was accompanied with an increased risk of sub-fertility. That is, women who had very high levels of alpha-amylase, had 29% less possibilities to become pregnant.
Results that will establish the possible adverse effects of excessive alpha-amylase production in men, are expected.
Anxiety is, of course, not the chief factor that will negatively affect a couple to become parents. The “age” factor holds the first position. However, it is beneficial to study an area, such as stress, that concerns a very large part of the population.
We need to understand what mechanisms may prevent ovulation and, more generally, fertility, in many women. Understanding is the first step for solving the problem.
