Effect of alcohol on the fetus
When a pregnant woman consumes alcohol, the same amount that is passed into her blood, passes into the baby’s blood as well.
An adult’s liver metabolises and “burns” alcohol. The fetus’s liver, however, not being fully develop is unable to metabolise in the same way, making alcohol extremely harmful, even in moderate or small amounts.
Alcohol also increases the possibility for miscarriage or premature birth.
Excessive consumption of alcoholic drinks during pregnancy is a cause of mental disability.
